Expert Foot and Ankle Physiotherapists

Our Physiotherapists are here to support you in your journey to a successful recovery, whether it’s from a sprained ankle or major surgery! Physiotherapy at The Foot and Ankle Institute are equipped not just with the skills and knowledge expected of a Physiotherapist; they are empathetic and dedicated to understanding your experience so that together you can achieve your goal.

All our Physiotherapists are AHPRA certified, hold the necessary Physiotherapy Qualifications required to practise and have undergone additional training to become further informed about the foot, ankle and toe complex all the way up to the lower back. This knowledge allows them to see the effects the foot and ankle can have on the rest of the body and the effects the rest of the body has on the foot and ankle.

Our Approach

At The Foot and Ankle Institute, we emphasise movement and education as cornerstones in your rehabilitation journey. Understanding the what, why and how of your condition is the first step towards getting on top of it. The second step is coming up with a comprehensive treatment plan suited to your needs. Whatever your goals, you can expect some form of movement as part of your treatment plan. Movement is critical for the health of the muscles, joints and body as a whole, and is an important component in any rehab plan.

Of course that is not all we do! Our Physiotherapists will also use the following treatment techniques to help you on your Rehab Journey.

  • Soft tissue mobilisation, trigger point therapy, joint manipulations, assisted muscle stretching, myo-fascial therapy, active release technique (ART), lymphatic drainage, scar modulation

  • Sports Tape, Rigid, Kinesiology, Hybrid, Swelling-Assist

  • Water-Proof synthetic, Plaster of Paris

  • CAM Boot, Post-Operative shoes, Brace prescription + fitting, Footwear Assessment

  • Nerve assessment, mobilisation, gliding, sliding and decompression

  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

  • Cryo Cuff fitment

We don’t employ a “cookie cutter” approach where every patient gets the same treatment. Each form of therapy is selected based on your presenting condition and what we believe will assist with your recovery the most.

Other Services

  • Our Physiotherapist’s training allows them to design custom exercise programs tailored to a variety of conditions or goals. Looking at you as an individual, the exercise plan can be as simple as a home exercise program requiring minimal equipment, or a periodised gym-based training program to enhance athletic performance. Our Physios can also liaise with coaches, teachers, trainers, instructors and care-givers to ensure your needs are prioritised.

  • Are you an athlete looking to minimise your risk of injury in sport? Or perhaps an athlete in the off-season looking to become fitter and stronger?

Injury prevention and performance go hand-in-hand: A stronger athlete is a more resilient and injury-free athlete. Our physiotherapists can help identify any weak links in your physical preparation through injury screening and help you address them through specific exercises or exercise programs. In addition to simply observing movement, we also use handheld dynamometry to aid in strength testing. Remember, if you aren’t assessing, you’re just guessing!

  • Are you worried about falls? Or had a fall recently?

Would you like to know if your walking stick or frame is the right fit for you?

Balance is highly dependent on feet health as well as how well a walking aid fits to your body type, movement capacity and needs. Getting the right advice is essential to reduce the likelihood of a potential fall. Our Physiotherapists are experts in figuring out where you stand in terms of balance, strength and if a walking aid is the appropriate one for you. They can prescribe exercise programs, balance drills and strategies as part of a home based program.

  • Have you recently had a growth spurt and are not sure about how your body is coping?

The growing body can often have a mismatch between bone, muscle and other tissues. With good assessment of the functional capacity of the growing body, our Physios can help with growing pains, muscle length issues, overload due to changing body mechanics and tightness. They can help with movement and strategies to facilitate a smooth transition to adulthood.

  • Not able to get to the clinic but still want to talk to an experienced Physiotherapist? Great news – you can arrange for a telehealth consultation that will take place over a video call. Many patients still have reservations about having online consultations due to the lack of “hands on” assessment treatment, but we can assure you that the quality of assessment and treatment is equivalent to what you would receive in person. That’s because a skilled Physiotherapist is able to pinpoint the issues you’re facing through a thorough discussion of your issue, and has the ability to get creative when it comes to assessing over video! Get in touch with us to see if we can help.
