Biomechanics Assessment and Gait Analysis
Biomechanics is the science of how the body moves as a whole – and it’s our main focus.
Having an in-depth understanding of biomechanics is important because different parts of the body do not function in isolation from each other; it’s important to understand how the function of one joint is affected by those above and below it. This is why we commonly treat areas that are further away from the area of concern.
Taking into consideration the movement of your bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints as a whole cohesive unit rather than individual components means we can get a true picture of how you are moving and identify the true source of your pain.
What happens during a biomechanical assessment?
Using the latest technology coupled with two decades of experience, we invite you to participate in a series of movement patterns such as walking and running. Using specialised instruments and an expert clinical eye to analyse your movement patterns, we evaluate the timing, range of motion and foot postures to ensure they are functioning well.
In addition to any treatment prescribed by your treating Physiotherapist, your podiatrist may take 3D scans of your feet and prescribe a custom orthotic insert or other device to help support your feet or improve joint alignment. Often, addressing the issue from both ends by offloading physical stress on the body whilst improving its capacity yields improved and longer-term results than simply addressing one contributing factor.
Treating the cause, not the symptoms
Breaking down your biomechanics piece by piece helps us understand why you may be experiencing pain or dysfunction, and then isolate the structure that is creating the problem. Finding the actual cause of your pain means you can avoid temporary treatments that just mask the symptoms, and we can work on permanently fixing the root cause.
Every foot is different, so our podiatry team takes great care to tailor a treatment pathway that will give you great results.
